Get out and walk! Explore, learn and share through a Jane’s Walk in Adelaide
Janes Walk Adelaide 2014 will be through the streets of Adelaide’s West End Precinct, starting at the SAHMRI building on North Terrace at 11 am, Sunday 4th May.
Jane’s Walk, is a locally led global festival, inspired by the legacy of urban activist Jane Jacobs. The walk celebrates her achievements by inviting the public to this forum on foot, increasing their urban literacy by visiting sites and spaces that display a positive contribution to the public realm at all scales.
The Free walking tours are held on the first weekend of May each year are led by locals who want to create a space for residents to talk about what matters to them in the places they live and work. Since its inception in Toronto in 2007, Jane’s Walk has expanded rapidly. In May of 2013, more than 800 walks were held in over 100 cities in 22 countries worldwide.Jane’s Walk is an International event with more than 800 organised walks conducted simultaneously over the weekend. Fascination Street has curated Adelaide’s Jane’s Walk the past two successful years.
We encourage anyone who is living, working or playing within the Adelaide CBD that would like to actively participate in the act of local place making. From our observations of the last two Jane’s Walk events, people from all walks of life come and take part in the conversations led by community groups, students and professionals. Jane’s Walk is an opportunity to connect to others in their neighbourhood to reveal more about the story behind the objects in our skyline and our streets.
